Singapore 44 Years of Independence day Commemorative

Posted on 09:01 by Unknown
Singapore independence day will be held on 9th August 2009. Singapore will be celebrating their 44 years of independence. The theme for the 44th National Day Parade (NDP) is Come Together, Reaching Out, Reaching Up. Just a few days away, a parade will be held on August 9 at the Marina Bay Floating Platform. This year's parade will contain 10 segments, inspired by lines of the Republic's national pledge. Military contingents will march down City Hall to the cheers of 150,000 to 200,000 people expected to throng the Marina Bay and Esplanade areas. The traditional military parade, which usually takes place before dusk, will begin an hour later and be incorporated into the light and sound show, adding something different to the proceedings.

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) launched a set of coins to commemorate Singapore’s 44 years of independence on 7 July 2009. The coin design is based on the 2009 National Day Parade (NDP) theme, "Come Together – Reaching Out, Reaching Up", which draws inspiration from the Singapore Pledge. At the centre of the coin are silhouette images of a man and a woman taking the pledge before the Singapore flag to symbolize the coming together as "one united people, regardless of race, language or religion".

On the right of the coin design are five stylized human figures reaching up into the sky in different colours that match the five stars in the NDP 09 logo. This reflects the second aspect of the NDP theme, to reach up towards our hopes and aspirations. The tagline in the NDP 09 logo, "Reaching Out - Reaching Up", underpins a stylized version of the Marina Bay’s floating platform, the venue of the NDP 2009 celebration. The obverse of the coins bears the Singapore Arms with the year-date 2009.
